Wrox Author: Brian Knight

Brian Knight, SQL Server MVP, MCSE, MCDBA, is the cofounder of SQLServerCentral.com and was recently on the Board of Directors for the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS). He runs the local SQL Server users group in Jacksonville, Florida (JSSUG). Brian is a contributing columnist for SQL Server Standard and also maintains a weekly column for the database Web site SQLServerCentral.com. He is the author of Admin911: SQL Server (Osborne/McGraw-Hill Publishing) and co-author of Professional SQL Server 2000 DTS (Data Transformation Services) and Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services. Q&A with Brian Knight

What is your job title? Where do you work?
Co-founder of JumpstartTV.com and Pragmatic Works. I work in Jacksonville, Florida, working on the Web site Jumpstart TV and consulting on the road for Pragmatic Works.

In what industry do you work?
I’m a consultant so I work and service every industry.

Dream job if you didn't work with computers?
I’ve always wanted to teach at the college level or write fiction that my mom and children could understand and read.

Where do you currently live?
Jacksonville, Florida, and in hotel rooms across the country.

First job after you finished school?
My first job out of high school was a customer service representative for AT&T. I would translate a few languages for the caller and help the caller sign up for various plans. My first college job was working tech support for an ISP. Every person should have to at some point do a customer service job to fully appreciate what the person behind the counter is going through.

Favorite movie?
Dead Poet Society in the drama category, and the movie I can’t get enough of watching is Happy Gilmore.

Childhood ambition?
To be a fiction writer.
